The Lay Folks Catechism




A fragment of a medieval manuscript including a portion of the Lay Folks Catechism. The original English verse translation
of this work, by John Gaitrik (or Gaytryge), dates from 1373. This fragment of vellum was found in the binding of a 1622 edition of
Richard Hooker's Of the Lawes of Ecclesiastical Politie. Note the rubrication (red decoration) on the capitals.
In total the fragment contains around 20 lines of verse.
